Zune Music Players Stop During New Year’s Eve

During the New Year’s eve of 2000, computers and other digital devices temporarily stopped due to Millennium bug, and the same thing happened recently to Microsoft Zune MP3 players as the year changed.

Thousands of Microsoft Zune MP3 players froze during the celebration of New Year’s eve around the world as a bug affected the internal clock of the device, according to Microsoft.

The bug only affected the 30-gigabyte model of Microsoft Zune which is the original version of the music player released in 2006 in an attempt to compete with Apple’s iPod.

Meanwhile, other versions of the music player including 80GB and 120GB models were not affected by the bug.

Many owners of Zune players complained to Microsoft about their devices which stop working, asking the company to fix the problem as soon as possible.

In discussion boards and forums, users expressed their grievances over the malfunction of their music players, calling this event as “Zunesday” or “Z2k”.

Before the New Year’s eve, the Washington-based company informed Zune users that they may experience “issues” when they will boot their music players, apologizing people for the inconvenience it will cause.

According to a statement released by the company after the worldwide problem occurred, the problem is caused by a bug which attacked the device’s internal clock driver.

Meanwhile, the company said that it will try to resolve the problem as soon as possible and advice their Zune users to make sure to fully run out the device’s battery before the music player can restart by fully recharging it again.

The problem has already been partly resolved by the company which promised its consumers with high quality service.
