Sheriff Accuses Craigslist of Promoting Prostitution

Craigslist, one of the world’s biggest online classified advertisements, has been charged with a lawsuit for allegedly promoting prostitution in the United States, according to AFP report.

Country sheriff Thomas Dart filed a prostitution case against Craigslist owners before the US District Court over their failure to block people who are using the site for selling sex.

In a press conference in Chicago, Dart said the popular ad site is the largest source of sex trade in the country, adding that this site serves as an online pimp that traffics abused women, minors, and runways.

“Victims including women and young children were forced to have sex to strangers because Craigslist is being used for pimping them”, Dart added.

Four months ago, the ad site has agreed to settle a lawsuit by promising to block any kind of advertisements that promote sex.

Meanwhile, Dart believes that sex trades continue in Craigslist, saying that the number of posts in one of the sections of the site called “Erotic” has not been changed.

“This criminal activity is not acceptable.  The owners of this site have already promised to block sex traders and other illicit activities and yet there have been no significant changes even after months of settling the lawsuit”, Dart said.

In his petition, Dart also said that “Craigslist serves discretely as an advertiser for pimps and patrons of prostitution.”

“I want the “Erotic” section in the Craisglist to be removed so illicit activities including prostitutions will be stopped”, he added.

Craigslist officials were asked for comments but declined to do so after saying they have not yet received the lawsuit.
