Other Media Features Adult Services–Craigslist

Despite criticism from various sectors, Craiglist executives stick to their decision to maintain the operation of its “adult services” category, citing several online and print media also feature the same controversial service.

In a statement issued on Monday, Craigslist CEO Jim Buckmaster publicly defended online advertising website and said that other media companies such as Microsoft, village voice media, major US newspapers, and even several South Carolina businesses have more “not-safe-for-work” features in their websites.

“These companies have more adult services advertisements embedded to its websites and newspaper pages, which are more than what we have in Craigslist. Some of these sites even have a more graphic nature to it,” Buckmaster said in his statement.

Buckmaster also took the privilege to link the said websites to prove his argument and accused Attorney General Henry Mcmaster of being “selective” in the implementation of the law.

The executive also claimed that law enforcement officials have not done something to interfere with the operation of some media companies which provide erotic services.

Buckmaster also said that “websites such as Craigslist even help cops make arrests”.

“The question now is why Mcmaster continues to single-out Craigslist and take other print publications for granted,” Buckmaster added in his letter.

Buckmaster said that the attorney general might think that Craigslist is “fashionable” at the moment following the recent media hype in a murder case where the online services site was tagged.

The Craigslist exec pointed that their website is an “easier” target compared to news publications, saying that Mcmaster’s attack on a news outlet may be perceive as an attack to press freedom itself.
