Japanese gaming giant Nintendo Co. recently announced it will provide new video feature to its popular Wii game console.
In a statement, the company revealed it is planning to develop a new feature which can be accessed by Wii gamers using the Internet, adding that this latest programming will come for free. But for those who want to enjoy more features, there is an added fee.
Nintendo worked with advertising giant Dentsu Inc. to develop this new service which is planned to be released in Japan next year. Meanwhile, the gaming company announced its plan to introduce the video service abroad but did not provide its date of release.
Sony Corporation, another gaming giant also based in Japan, was first to use the same video feature. With its popular PlayStation gaming console, the firm embeds corporate messages to every games which has been proven to be a very effective advertising tools because of the dramatic increase of sales of online movies.
Nintendo and Dentsu are seeking other companies’ support to further expand the new service to a broader market of gamers.
According to the latest study, the gaming giant has shipped over 34 million Wii consoles worldwide. Eighty percent of its sales is used in the living room area and 40 percent is connected to the Internet.
First launched in 2006, Wii consoles are popular among hard-core gamers because of its innovative motion-sensitive controller. With this gaming device, people can also communicate with other Wii users, organize digital images, surf the Internet, and perform other web-based applications.
Other popular gaming console made by Nintendo is the DSi which provides multiple media functions such as built-in camera that offers various photo editing tools.
