Wireless communication provider Qualcomm said the netbooks may soon topple notebooks in sales as more consumers will choose to buy the former with its portable design and cheaper price.
According to Bloomberg report, Qualcomm CEO Paul Jacobs said that netbooks will become the choice of consumers who mostly considered themselves as web-centric users. Meanwhile, the chief executive did not provide the exact timeframe of when the netbook will overthrow its bigger version.
Earlier report said that more than 21 million netbooks will be shipped this year, an impressive result despite falling sales of desktop computers and notebooks which is expected to decline by 12 percent before the year ends.
Last year, majority of computer makers shifted to netbooks which are more portable than laptops. Meanwhile, the popularity of this newest genre of computers can be attributed to its relatively cheap price.
Some experts said that netbook’s popularity may be short-lived, adding that once the economy bounce back from recession, consumers will have stronger purchasing power that will allow them to buy more expensive notebooks.
Pessimism over the popularity of netbook still remains for some experts as the latest finding said that most consumers are not satisfied over the performance, features, and screen size of this ultra-portable computer.
According to research firm Biz360, majority of computer users are dissatisfied with netbook models with its limited performance and lack of ergonomic design especially in terms of screen size.
Despite some such findings, Qualcomm decided to take advantage of netbook’s current popularity and has developed a new processor called Snapdragon that is specifically designed for ultra-portable computers or miniaturized devices.
According to the company, the Snapdragon will challenge Intel’s popular Atom processor which is used by majority of netbook models today.

i don’t think so, better netbooks are coming everyday.
Weird think is they still use winXP, and Microsoft is shutting down the support for it. maybe they will reconsider that.
