The world’s biggest online search engine Google Inc will join forces with leading record companies for the launching of its newest feature that is specially designed for music search, sources said on Friday.
According to sources, the new feature in Google’s search engine will help users to browse for music files, to listen to sample songs, and to buy upcoming tracks from popular artists.
With the launch of the new feature in Google Search, the recording industry hopes to close the gap in the plunging sales in the past few years. It can also help the labels to break new acts in music and to establish new outlets that will augment the ailing market for music.
“With more than 65 percent of all searches coming from Google, the recording industry will soon have its old glory back, just like the old days,” a source said in an interview.
Also, the sources said that other startup features like the new iLike and Lala will help users and other prospective music file buyers to know what’s hot or not in the music scene.
It will also host a “Buy” button that will direct users to an easier and faster way of purchasing their favorite tunes.
“The new features of the Google Search will reduce the steps required for fans before they can buy the songs or albums that they like,” the source added.
“Users will be redirected to websites like Amazon, iTunes, and other online music stores. Once connected, they can now download as much as they want in a safer and more efficient manner,” the source stressed.
It will be recalled that Lala and the iLike feature of an online page was recently acquired by MySpace, a popular social networking website owned by News Corp.
The sources said that Google and the recording companies will launch the new features on October 28.
They added that major music labels like Warner Music Group, EMI Music, Sony Music Entertainment, and Vivendi’s Universal Music group will participate in the said launching.
