Technology giant Microsoft warned people over the use of fake security softwares as these programs are mostly infected with malware and other threats.
According to Microsoft security experts, there is a growing number of fake security programs that provide free scan for users. This software will urge people to download the code by saying their computers were infected with virus, and after downloading this, it will not provide security tools against virus but instead put a malware into the computer system.
According Microsoft’s Security Intelligence Report, the technology giant has detected two Trojan Horse called Win32/FakeXPA and Win32/FakeSecSen which are malwares that appear to provide desirable functions but instead will cause harm to the computer system
The technology giant also said that more than 3 million units were infected during the second half of 2008. While the number has declined by 3 percent compared to the previous six months, Microsoft said that more than half of the online threats were considered “severe”—a proof that online hackers and fraudsters are becoming more aggressive these days.
Meanwhile, computer security experts believe that people behind such online threats are gaining millions if not billions of dollars annually, adding that hackers often work with a big international syndicate.
To stop the proliferation of online threats, Microsoft has filed lawsuits against people believed to be responsible in creating and infecting computer systems.
According to some security experts, Microsoft softwares are one of the most vulnerable computer programs as these have weak security features that will protect users against different kinds of threats.
Experts said the most targeted software is Microsoft Office that more than 90 percent of online attacks have exploited its weakness.
