Microsoft Releases Windows 7 in Beta Mode

After releasing Vista which has widely criticized by some computer experts, Microsoft introduced Windows 7 that may solve some problems of its predecessor.

US software giant Microsoft released on Friday its latest operating system Windows 7 which is available in beta (test) mode, according to Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer.

During the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Ball said in his opening speech that their company’s goal is to provide people with the “best version of Windows”, adding that the new operating system will feature “simplicity, reliability, and speed.”

Ballmer encouraged people from all over the world to download Windows 7 to try its features and performance.  Meanwhile, Microsoft partner companies have already been testing and using the new operating system.

Ballmer said that Windows 7 has been designed to extend battery life of computers, to perform faster, to provide more reliability, and to offer compatibility to support other digital devices including mobile phones, online applications, and networks of computers.

The Windows 7 is the successor to Vista which has received numerous criticisms by some experts who believe that it lacks security features, less reliability, slower performance compared to other Windows’ version, and incompatibility with some common applications.

According to Microsoft, one of the highlighted features is the “Play-to” that allows users to stream digital contents including photos, music, and videos in networks of computers, adding that Media Player and the Media Center programs will support a wider array entertainment solution devices.

Another notable feature of Windows 7 is the touch-screen control capability which is seen by some experts to replace computer mouse in the near future.

Ballmer replaced Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates who recently retired from his CEO position in June 2008.
