How the Internet Media Placed Obama on White House

Political experts believe that Barack Obama has won the latest election due to his effective Internet-based campaign strategy.

In this web-centric society, Obama has taken the right step to utilize the computer to spread awareness and to reach a broader audience, majority of them are voters.

The President-elect has won in a landslide victory over John Mccain.  He used this digital media in many ways, from organizing people and supporters, to raising funds for the campaign.  Adopting this kind of political strategy, pundits believe that Obama will continue to use the Internet media to influence people and make them support issues he is concerned about.

While Obama enjoys popularity among younger voters who happen to be voracious consumer of Internet services, his rival Mccain was viewed by some web-centric people as “computer-hater”.  This reputation started when the senator expressed his support for “net-neutralization” which means that government should have a control over the contents of this electronic media.

During the campaign period, Obama used the two most popular social networking sites in US, MySpace and Facebook.  Not wanting to be left out, Mccain also created his own account which expectedly became less popular compared to his political rival.

According to Micah Sifry, co-founder of techpresident.com—a blog site that tackles political issues—making feel people that the agenda is their own too, not just plans shovelled from throats, Obama can successful have the genuine support of web-centric society.

While propagating messages using the Internet has been proven effective, sociologists and political analysts said that force-feeding people with ideas will not have a good result, adding that a leader can only achieve genuine support if he will use the Internet in the most interactive and transparent way.
