Internet giant Google recently removed some controversial images from its software called Street View which allows users to view some cities in the UK following concerns over piracy issues, according to AFP report.
Google said it removed some controversial and embarrassing pictures including a man who was seen coming out from a sex shop in one of London’s street and also a drunken man who appeared to be vomiting outside a bar.
When asked how many pictures were deleted from the service, Google spokeswoman did not reveal the exact numbers of removed images but said that it is less than what they had expected.
For those people who want to delete images of themselves or their homes can go to Google’s database and fill out a form requesting for the removal of these pictures. With this move, the Internet giant expects that it has resolved the privacy concerns of some web users.
To protect the privacy of people, Google said that it blurred sensitive information including plate number of cars. Meanwhile, the company also assured the public that it also blurred individuals’ faces.
Google Street View was first introduced in the US in May 2007 and after one year, this service has been fully integrated with Google Earth 4.3. In July 2008, this software was then introduced in Italy and France.
When Street View was introduced in Japan last year which was concentrated in five areas, this software received criticism from various sectors who believe that the service is culturally insensitive.
Earlier, the Internet giant said it is planning to cover all parts of the world with the Street View service.
