Google Apps Growing Popularity on Corporate World

Google Apps which is a collection of software is becoming more popular among businesses due to its relatively cheap price compared to other software provided by key players including Microsoft and SAP.

With this Google’s service, business owners can save thousands of dollars from their technical spending since the service is for free.  And for clients who want to avail the advanced features, all they have to do is pay for a meager $50 every year.

According to a recent report, more than 1 million companies are using Google Apps.  And with the present economic condition where businesses are forced to cut costs, this cheaper service is much sought-after than any corporate software available today.

One survey revealed that US companies are planning to reduce their technical spending which may result to 0.9 percent decline of this in the next year.  Forced to adopt contingency plans, industries are now shifting towards newer and cheaper technologies to cut costs.

While cheaper technologies have long been available even before there is an economic slowdown, these are often overlooked by companies.  But with the onset of credit crunch crisis, companies started to adopt this kind of services.

According to a business expert, cheaper technologies such as cloud computing (e.g. Google Apps), open source software (OSS) which is developed in collaborative manner among companies (making it cheaper compared to propriety software), and virtualization software which allows users to run various applications using a single computer have changed the whole trend of tech spending, allowing the corporate sector to save $60 billion every year.

Big companies like Walt Disney which is one of the leading film producers in the US ha adopted these cheaper alternatives and has been using Linux OSS on making animated shows.

According to a recent survey, the trend for cheaper alternative technologies will grow even if the economy will bounce back.
