Facebook Discusses with Nokia to Bring Social Networks to Mobile Phones

Facebook is planning to bring social networks to mobile users while discussing partnership deal with Nokia which is the world’s largest handset manufacturer, according to Wall Street Journal report on Thursday.

The proposed plan is seen as a new service that will allow people to access their social profile accounts using some Nokia models.

While the discussion has been going for a couple of months, the two companies have not yet agreed upon in terms of profits which apparently is one of the remaining hindrances with the proposed new service.

Another concern for the integration of Nokia and Facebook is how the contact information of social site users can be stored inside the system of the mobile phone.

According to communication experts, social networks are becoming more financially viable that it can help handset manufacturers like Nokia to thrive in this highly web-centric market, adding that as millions of people have already embraced the online community, businesses started to look at this as a profitable market which has to be tapped.

Developers of the new service also face another challenge: how to provide more interactive features.  According to communication experts, one way to make this new service viable is to provide interactive communication features that will allow people to see “friends” status (log on) and reply to messages sent via social site.

Meanwhile, the social site is also discussing partnership deal with other mobile phone manufacturers including Motorola and Palm.

According to an earlier report, Facebook spokeswoman said that the site is trying to expand its market by discussing deal with communication providers and handset manufacturers worldwide.

In January, research firm comScore said that Facebook dethroned MySpace and becomes the biggest social networking sites in the world this year.
