Computer game developer Electronic Arts is set to release the latest version of its popular virtual game called Sims 3 that features social networking tools to maximize interaction between users.
In a media conference and exhibit, Electronic Arts on Tuesday showed the capabilities and features of the newest addition to the Sims franchise. As far as online gaming is concerned, the company said that Sims 3 is different from its predecessors as it is packed with more “new” customization options and a wider range of areas to explore.
One of the outstanding features of Sims 3 is the introduction of micro-transactions to the world of the Sims. Players can now purchase items to improve their game characters and to advance their online gaming status.
The PC developer said the Sims 3 comes with $10-SimsPoints which is the ownership currency that will be implemented in the game. The company also offers bundles of 500, 1000, or 2000 worth of additional points.
However, the Electronic Arts failed to mention how they will convert SimsPoints to dollars in the real world.
Meanwhile, the Electronic Arts also revealed that it is now attempting to incorporate social networking capabilities to the game that will give users a whole new experience in online gaming. The social networking features will include downloadable information, gamers’ updates, current news, most-wanted items, and the inclusion of existing social networks like MySpace and Facebook into the game.
With the new version of this popular virtual game, users can post blogs, images, and videos using the new My Studio features of Sims 3. Meanwhile, Story creation and video tools exchange is also available in the game.
Sims 3 will be officially launched in the US in June 2009.
