Chinese Hackers Target US

A recent report revealed that Chinese hackers are targeting US government and military department and some private companies to steal sensitive information.

During the congressional meeting, security experts warn that cyber-attacks against US are continuously rising, adding that strong defence should be bolstered to stop espionage activities and unauthorized access to computer networks.

One famous about cyber-attacks happened in 2005 when Chinese hackers accessed confidential files in National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and stole files from the department’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter project.  With this incident, the agency’s long years of developing space technology was stolen with a click of a mouse.

Few months after this event, Army Aviation and Missile Command based in Alabama has also been under attacked by cyber pirates from China who stole top-secret software and files.

According to Financial Times report published last month, a senior White House official who asked for anonymity said that they have experienced many cyber-attacks, adding that there were even incidents when Chinese hackers obtained online correspondents between high-ranking officials.

Representative North Virginia Frank Wolf said that he has been a victim of cyber-attack in 2006, explaining that he was the main target of some Chinese officials because of his exposure regarding human rights violation in this Asian country.

In February, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confiscated fake CISCO systems which cost millions of dollars.  In its 5-page resolution, the bureau stated that counterfeited hardware systems are more vulnerable to security breaches compared to original ones.

Also during this month, the Department of Justice filed an arrest warrant against four people, namely, Yu Xin Kang, Dongfan Chung, Gregg William Bergersen, and Tai Shen Kuo who are accused of stealing top military secrets and sending these to China.
