Fujacks, the original Panda virus, has caused major damage in computer systems around the country due to lack of online security during that period. It was also a generation of virus that has evolved from one source since the late 2006.

The spread of the worm has also led to the first arrest in China’s history in connection with the violation of anti-virus writing law.

McAfee Labs researcher Vu Nguyen said that the worm has a malware component that made it hard to detect by earlier versions of anti-virus software.

“The earlier version has damaged millions of PCs around China. But the new version has gotten more complex and poses more threat to users’ computers due to the addition of a rootkit,” Nguyen stressed.

A rootkit works by burrowing deep into the system and hides the existence of a particular malware.

“Once in has invaded the computer, the users will definitely have a more challenging time to clean up their PCs or worse, their computers and their entire system might be compromised by the virus,” the expert added.

It will be recalled that the earlier version of the Panda worm has gained its notoriety after users discovered its existence when an image of a panda holding three incense sticks replaced icons of infected files.

The image or icon would also flash in the users’ screens. Once in its final stages, the Panda virus will then install a Trojan horse malware, which is typically used by hackers to steal passwords.

It will be recalled that the Active Solutions LLC and Southern Electronics Supply Inc. has filed for a $3.6 million lawsuit against the computer giant and former city technology chief Greg Meffert for allegedly tampering with their camera system.

But the jury has dismissed the claims prompting the plaintiff’s lawyer Gladstone Jones to seek for an appeal. Jones has accused the respondent and the city government of conspiracy, saying that they were robbed of the money that they should make out of the ruling.

“We are not happy with the ruling. They are conspiring against us. We did not get as much money we hoped we’ve make in this case,” he said.

Meanwhile, James Garner, also a lawyer of the plaintiff, said that they would review the case, adding that they would seek for an attorney’s fee that would push the damages imposed against Dell to over $20 million.

On the other hand, Dell counsel Phillip Wittmann said that they will have to study further the necessary action before they file for an appeal.

Based on the court documents, the complainants accused Meffert, the city government, and Dell of conspiracy to take charge of its surveillance system.

The companies said that their technology could be worth hundreds of million, if not billions of dollars.

But defense attorneys brushed off the claims, pointing that the two companies were “sore losers” in the competitive business environment. They lawyers said that the companies also over charged its customers, which led to its downfall.

The lawyers also said that they choose Dell to provide them the security cameras since it is more reliable and has deeper pocket needed in the installation of the system.

The system was installed in New Orleans in a bid to deter growing crime rates.

But it has failed to live up to the city government expectations after faulty mechanism and fraction sized setup can not compensate the actual cost of the project.

Located near Redmond, the headquarters of software giant Microsoft, the ReSTART center was opened on July. The center is the first ever residential treatment building in the US, and will focus treatments on Internet addiction.

According to ReSTART management, a 45-day program can cost a person some $14, 000 including the food and lodging. The center will help people to remove unhealthy and sometimes pathological computer use out of their systems.

They revealed symptoms of the said habit, which include pathological use of video games, obsession with texting, social networking, tweeting, and bidding in websites like eBay.

ReSTART executive director and therapist Hilarie Cash said that the center had been conducting rehabilitation procedures for years now, but in an outpatient basis. She added that the growing number of Internet addicts prompted them to establish the center.

Meanwhile, the American Psychiatric Association said that they do not recognize Internet addiction as a separate disorder and most insurance companies does not cover such addictions.

It was learned that Internet addiction was most common to Asian countries like South Korea, China, and Taiwan due to the popularity of the computer and other devices. In these countries, the addiction is recognized as a threat and a real harm to the mental health of the people, particularly the youth.

ReSTART sits on five acres of land in Fall City, some 30 miles east of high-tech city, Seattle. However, it has a limited number of patient-capacity, with only six people at a time.

The program, according to the management, uses “cold turkey” approach. The patients would then spend the 45 days inside the centers under occasional counseling and psychotherapy sessions.

They would also be asked to do household chores, daily exercise, and other work on the center grounds. But a fun treatment approach like biking, camping, and baking lessons are included in the program.

The two new devices, according to Sony executives, will give users more affordable options. It is also bound to take a large bulk of the market shares away from the dominant Kindle.

Based on suggested retail price, Sony’s Reader Pocket Edition will be available for only $199, which is $100 less than its competitor.

Meanwhile, the new Touch Edition will be available for $299 and will give more exciting options to users when it comes out of the stores by the end of the month.

Sony’s Digital Reading Business Division President Steve Haber said that both devices will be available at SonyStyle stores, retail partners, and even at the SonyStyle.com.

“In the era of digital technology, Sony believes that consumers have the right and should have the choice in buying what they what,” said Haber, who apparently taking a swipe at Kindle.

These pocket size devices will not only give users options on what e-book they want to read but they can also read it while on the go. The ultraportable Reader Pocket Edition had moved in an opposite direction.

Rather than going large like Amazon.com’s Kindle, the new Sony device can fit into girls’ purses or even in men’s jacket pocket.

One of the key features of the device is its 5-inch display screen, which gives it a “real” feeling of reading a novel or book. It is also easy to navigate and has a power capacity of more than two weeks in a single charge.

Meanwhile, the Reader Touch Edition has a 6-inch touchscreen panel, a stylus pen for browsing, and even includes an Oxford American English Dictionary.

Police earlier found the lifeless body of Sun Danyong, a contracted worker for Foxconn International in Dongguan, inside his apartment.

However, the investigators failed to recover the 16 prototype iPhones, leading to the suspicion that a notorious counterfeit gang in China was involved.

Foxconn, a Taiwanese company, said that Danyong was the one who slipped the fourth generation iPhone out of its heavily secured laboratory to be sold to Shenzhen’s notoriously entrepreneurial counterfeiters.

Control Risks, a corporate probe consulting firm, said that the incident was nothing new to the IT industry, saying that most of the incidents happened less than one day.

“These people don’t necessary steal the new product prototypes. They just borrow it for a day or less maybe, then bring it back to avoid suspicion from the company,” CR regional general manager Dane Chamorro said.

Foxconn is one of the main cellphone manufacturers for brands like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, and Motorola.

Earlier reports quoting Foxconn General Manager for China told that Sun Danyong were already caught of “losing” products for several times but was able to retrieve it the next day.

It will be recalled that China was already blacklisted by several brands for its massive counterfeiting operations. The new fourth generation iPhone was not the fist Apple phone counterfeited in the country, where the first fake copies of the first generations of the Apple cellphone was a big hit.

Other cellphone makers like Nokia, Motorola, and Samsung suffered similar fate as the iPhone models.

Based on documents from the US Customs and Border Protection Unit, some 79 percent of seized counterfeit products and other goods came from China. Authorities said that the value of the said fake goods ranges from $200 to $350 million.
