Capcom to Launch New Video Games for iPhone

Following a recent growth in the mobile gaming market, video game giant Capcom Co Ltd. on Friday announced its plans to release 10 more titles under Apple iPhone this year until March 2010.

The Japanese-based video game manufacturer made the announcement following the success of three titles that it has launched earlier this year for iPhone and iPod touch. The games under the Apple gadgets were Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, and Resident Evil: Degeneration.

The popular horror survival role-playing game, Resident Evil 5, may reached the 1 million mark in units sold within the current fiscal year, said Kazuhiko Abe, the Chief Financial Officer of Capcom. The sales will now exceed the initial company forecast of 800, 000 units.

In his speech during the Reuters Global Technology Summit, Kazuhiko said that the company is still enjoying the “very strong” demand for the latest installment in the Resident Evil series, which was originally made for Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360.

The official reported that the company has sold more than 4.4 million gaming units since the game’s launch last March, adding the company has sold to as many as 570, 000 units in April alone.

Due to the strong demand for Street Fighter IV and Resident Evil 5, Capcom’s operating profit for the year end increased by 11 percent, Kazuhiko said.

Meanwhile, Kazuhiko projected of 6 percent or $164 million increase in the company’s sales revenue until March 2010 if the gaming market continues its steady growth.

The official said the Capcom will now expand its sales overseas by offering the popular titles to growing U.S. and European markets.

Meanwhile, Japanese game makers are now looking for revenue in other markets as demand for video game in the country is now shrinking.
