Apple Releases Security Patch for iPHone

Following reports that Apple iPhones were vulnerable to hackers, the company on Friday released a security patch called OS 3.0.1. that will protect users’ sensitive data and information.

Few weeks ago, security expert Charlie Miller proved the vulnerability of iPhone by running a software code on the device that can automatically turn on its microphone, allowing hackers to listen to phone conversations without the knowledge of users.

The malware, which can infect a device through an SMS message, has also been designed to control the iPhone and will allow hackers to make calls, send emails, and access contacts and personal messages.

Miller said the malicious code will allow hackers to do anything they want without being detected by communication providers as the malware does not use wireless carriers.

After determining the weak spot of iPhone, Miller, together with Fraunhofer SIT analysts Collin Mulliner, informed the Apple about the discovery which subsequently alarmed the public.

Meanwhile, the technology company lauded the two experts for revealing the weak security feature of the device, and assuring the consumers that the problem will be immediately fixed.

In a statement, Apple said it has released an updated OS, which is only available through the latest version of iTunes, that has been designed to prevent hackers from sending the malicious code from the device which can interrupt the service communication and steal sensitive data and information of users.

Despite the release of the security patch, some experts said the credibility of Apple may have been tarnished because of its slow response with the problem.

However, security experts said that other technology companies have also experienced the same security problems.

Few months ago, mobiles phones which were using Google Android and Windows Mobile have been attacked by bugs that interrupted the service.  However, it did not allow hackers to embed codes on the device.
