A new survey revealed that Americans prefer the Internet as their source of local and international news compared to traditional newspaper.
According to Washington-based Pew Research Center for the People and the Press, almost 40 percent of the 1489 people who was surveyed said that Internet is their primary source of news, an increase from 24 percent in September last year.
Meanwhile, the television still remains the most preferred news medium of Americans with 40 percent of people surveyed saying it is their main source of local and international news.
The research group said that the popularity of television has decreased compared to last year, stating that 59 percent of people younger than 30 years of age use this medium down from 68 percent.
Pew conducted the survey on December 3-7 and did not provide the margin of error.

iSuppli Reveals Notebook Sales Beat Desktops for the First Time
Notebook computer sales worldwide were higher compared to desktops for the first time in history, according to iSuppli Corp. which is a market research firm.
The group revealed that notebook sales rose to almost 40 percent or equivalent to 38.6 million units in the third quarter compared to the same period last year, describing this occurrence as a “watershed event in the history of the industry.”
The research firm also said that desktop sales declined to 1.3 percent compared to last year, down to 38.5 million units.
iSuppli analyst Matthew Wilkins said that this is a major event in the desktop and notebook market because this is a clear indication that the latter is not only for well-off people but for anyone.
Wilkins also said that Taiwan’s Acer is the biggest player in notebook industry adding that the company has sold over three million laptops during the third quarter with majority of the sales coming from netbook models.
